Coffee or Pepper Grinder
An antique French country cast iron coffee grinder by Peugeot Frères, size type A0.
Peugeot Frères began manufacturing coffee grinders in 1832.
Coffee was introduced to France in the 17th century and to obtain a good coffee the only grinders came from Turkey where coffee had been consumed for a long time; but they were very rare in France. In the 18th century, the first two-part mills appeared: the barrel with the mechanism and the base consisting of a wooden box with a drawer.
This type of coffee grinder was manufactured between 1889 and 1907 when Peugeot Frères changed its name to Peugeot Frères Aînés et Cie.
This one is still in good working order and has its original wooden drawer. The cast body is clearly pressed with the manufacturing name.
Size 34 cm x 14 cm 13.3 inch x 5.5 inch
